Born in Japan, Miyo studied Architecture and worked as an architect until she moved to Australia in 1966. She joined the NSCG in 2007.
In Australia, Miyo studied ceramics at TAFE. She exhibited at Willoughby Town Hall in 1992 and 1993, and was a full member of the New Japan Art Society from 1995 – 2005 where her work was selected for exhibition several times and received awards at the National Art Gallery, Ueno Tokyo and at Jiyugakuen Exhibition (Japan). |

Miyo is interested in making pottery for daily use, such as bowls, dishes and plates using both electric (oxidative environment) and Gas (reductive environment) Kilns.
She has also previously made stoneware dishes, plates etc using glaze on glaze technique; celadon bowls, vases, plates etc (reduction) and white porcelain dishes etc (reduction).
Miyo’s current work is the development of various techniques such as ‘Deco’, and ‘Washi zome’ (using Japanese paper and cobalt solution), spray of dyes and rusteres. |
