Peter joined the NSCG in 2006. He became interested in art bookbinding as a result of visiting paper makers in Thailand and Laos. Nearing retirement from a lifetime of office work, he found the time to investigate the intricacies of hand bookbinding, particularly Coptic stitching which has been in use for about 2000 years and allows pages to lay flat when the book is opened. This makes it especially suitable for sketchbooks and memory or memento books, which can be used to record a special occasion – birthdays, weddings and even funerals, where the guests can record their special memories of the persons involved.
Peter has been fortunate to have the opportunity of learning from some very talented tutors such as Adele Outteridge, Jean Riley and Jeanette Bakker and other members of Primrose Paperworks Inc. Although he is particularly interested in Coptic bound books and Japanese Stab Binding, he continues to broaden his skills when the opportunity arises. Peter finds bookbinding a rewarding and interesting experience.
